The St. Cloud City Council approved two assistant chief positions for the St. Cloud Police Department on Monday.
The assistant chiefs would have the same duties as the captains, but they would not be part of the union or be eligible for overtime.
The salaries they will receive will be equal to their captain pay plus overtime.
The captain positions will be retained but not filled in case those slots are needed later, Police Chief Dennis Ballantine said.
Sue Stawarski and Rich Wilson are the current police captains.
